During this podcast episode, we are joined by Andrea Clarke - an intuitive healer, who weaves together holistic pelvic care, feminine embodiment, womb awakening and energy medicine.

Her focus is on helping women discover and nurture the sacred connection with their bodies, and the feminine essence within. Andrea believes that through deep womb connection and remembrance we can tap into our innate wisdom and creativity, allowing womb owners to empower themselves so that we can embrace our roles of co-creation, feminine leadership and soul expression.

CONNECTING TO THE WOMBSPACE

  • Andrea shares with us her 27-year long journey in holistic therapy, which started with a focus on treating fertility issues and led her to study womb massage and feminine embodiment. She is now one of the few qualified practitioners in holistic pelvic care, an intra-vaginal treatment, which is based on the work of Tami Lynn Kent, author of the book Wild Feminine.

  • Andrea explains that there is great power in having a two-way conversation with the womb and other body parts, and asking: ‘What are you holding?’ and ‘What do you need?’ We talk about the role of shame in our female histories, and how it is often the hardest piece to unstick when working with the womb space.

  • She works intuitively by opening up the energy field and feeling into opportunities for communication. She describes how most women have experienced giving their power away in intimacy, or experienced some kind of womb trauma, and benefit from creating a safe container through the womb communion that Andrea facilitates. The womb space’s experience of these events will be different to that of the head space. Andrea believes that the energetic womb-space accompanies us on our soul journey, and stores many experiences over many lifetimes

  • Andrea talks about how womb-holders connect with their spirituality differently compared with those who do not hold an energetic womb-space. Even if there is no physical womb present, a deep connection can be made. Andrea believes we connect down into Mother Earth through the chakras including the womb chakra. We draw parallels between the lack of honouring of Mother Earth as provider to the dishonouring of women throughout history. Yet, we can also send trauma into the Earth to be transmuted and composted – as She is strong enough to take it.

  • Andrea describes how the issues women are facing now have changed and evolved, which reflects the evolution in our consciousness and the language we use. She feels that we are missing an important part of our identities if we do not connect with our womb-space, and that often this disconnection is caused by trauma.

  • One of the underlying pieces for Andrea is understanding the ebbs and flows of our menstrual cycle, as this is the entry point into deeper work. It reminds us of how to work with our bodies and hormone cycles in daily life. We can open ourselves up to doing things differently, instead of getting caught up in the ‘shoulds’ of being female.

  • We discuss the process of feminism – the Pill, power suits and trying to fit into a male world, and how it has changed and is always evolving. We can see feminism as a journey which will continue to grow and change, and we express gratitude for the access we now have to information about womb work and living life in a different way. Andrea says things can now shift so much more quickly than they did in the past, which she believes is about combining body work with energy work, and the client also playing the role of healer - where the practitioner and the client’s energies merge.

  • Andrea describes the idea that “the issue is in the tissue” and brings a somatic approach into her treatments. For example, during intra-vaginal massage, she uses a combination of physical contact and enquiry to access emotions that are stored in the tissue. She spirals into the body and the layers of emotion until things open up, to bring about release. We talk about how touch is such a beautiful tool to promote healing.

  • We discuss how we can fear our own power and how sometimes we find it hard to embrace it. Andrea takes Sally and Sibby on a journey into their own wombs, in a beautiful meditation which you can join in with as you listen. (The meditation is at the end of the podcast episode).
